Several people are dead in the fuel tanker explosion in RDC

Congolese authorities in Kongo-Central confirmed Thursday that several people were killed in Wednesday’s explosion at a fuel tanker.

Guy Bandu, governor in the province, Africa News reports that the tragedy took place on national road 1, near Mbuba village, in the territory Madimba, 120km west of Kinshasa.
According to media sources, the vehicle was headed towards the Congolese capital, and exploded close to a small market.

“It is more than time to take drastic and courageous measures to strengthen the regulation of transport, especially that of flammable products, to put an end to this cycle of disasters. The RN1 should not be a graveyard,” Bandu said on Twitter.

Other people were also seriously injured by the explosion.
More than 50 people were killed in an explosion of a tanker that occurred after a collision at the exact same spot in October 2018.
