PM Holds Talks with Senior Sudan’s Ruling Council Official
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has held talks with a senior member of Sudan’s ruling Transitional Sovereign Council Lt. Gen Ibrahim Gaber in Addis Ababa.
The Prime Minister received the visiting Sudanese delegation led by Lt. Gen Gaber at his office on Monday Morning.
The PM Office said Abiy discussed “issues of mutual concern” of the two neighboring countries with the Sudanese side.
This is the second high level visit by Sudan’s ruling Council to Ethiopia in five weeks.
President of Sudan’s ruling council General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan conferred with PM Abiy in Bahir Dar on bilateral and regional issues.
Spy Agencies sign cooperation deal
On the same day, Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) says its General Director Temesgen Tiruneh met with his Sudanese spy chief Lt. Gen Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadel, in Khartoum.
The spy chiefs discussed ways to strengthen their ties and enhance cooperation in the intelligence and security sectors.
The discussion was aimed at joining hands in countermeasures on elements that disrupt the peace of the people of the two countries.
The two sides concluded their meeting with a signing of a memorandum of understanding to share experiences and exchange information on common issues.
The agreement paves a way for the two agencies to jointly combat, what they called common regional threat, terrorism, and cross-border crimes.
They also agreed to fight elements that threaten the peace and security of the two countries.
The MoU was signed a month after Sudanes spy chief Lt Gen Mufadel held talks with NISS officials in Addis Ababa, during which the two intelligence agencies agreed in principle to scale up cooperation and operations that ensures peace and stability in the East African region.
