Ethiopian Airlines Unveils New Terminal at Bole International Airport
Today on 18th May 2024, Ethiopian Airline opened a new terminal at their Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa. The terminal is for only domestic flights. It cost $50 million.
Ethiopian Airline will now be able to fly to all the cities in Ethiopia from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport using this new terminal. Senior officials, including Mr. Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Ambassador Nasise Chali, Minister of Tourism, and Ber’o Hassen, Minister of State for Transport and Logistics attended this inauguration ceremony.
The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines said this new terminal will allow them to carry twice as many passengers on their domestic flights compared to before. He also highlighted the key features such as 4 aircraft-compatible gates, 10 bus boarding gates, and 22 check-in areas within the facility.
The Minister of Tourism, Ambassador Nasise Chali, said this new domestic terminal is very important for helping the tourism industry grow in Ethiopia. The airline flies to 22 different cities within Ethiopia.
Additionally, it was announced that Ethiopian Airline will start domestic flights to Nekemte and Axum, expanding their current network of more than 200 daily domestic flights.
This project was constructed by the Chinese company CCCC (Chinese Communications Construction Company) which is designed to connect directly with the international passenger terminal building.
Last month The CEO, Mesfin Tasew, said that the airline was expecting around 3.5 million domestic passengers by the end of the current budget year, which ends in June. This is an increase of 34.6% from last year’s passenger number. Last year, 2.6 million domestic passengers traveled with Ethiopian Airlines. The airline is seeing a gradual rise in domestic passenger numbers.
