2023 CHAN Qualifiers: Ethiopia to Play Home Game Vs Rwanda in Dar es Salaam

Ethiopia will play its home match against Rwanda in the final round of the qualifying tie for the 2023 African Nations Championship away from their fans.

The national team progressed to the second round of the 2023 CHAN qualifiers after beating South Sudan 5–0 on aggregate last Month

The Walia Ibex will now face Rwanda for a spot at the finals in Algeria in another double-legged round. The Rwandese national team will have a slight advantage over Ethiopia.

Having no international-standard stadium, the Walias will be forced to play their opening home match in Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on August 26.

Rwanda will, however, play the return match in front of their fans at home on September 4, 2022, as per the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Walias have already started their preparation for the 2023 CHAN final round qualifying match in Adama. Head Coach Wubetu Abate will take his team to Tanzania on August 18, according to the football federation.

Algeria will host the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in January.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s representatives in the CAF Interclub competitions, St George FC and Fasil Kenema FC will play their home matches in September at the Bahir Dar Stadium.

St George will face Sudanese outfit Al Hilal in the preliminary round of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League. Fasil FC will also play against Bumamuru FC of Burundi in the preliminary round of the 2022–23 Caf Confederation Cup competition.

The clubs are allowed to play their matches at home as they are only preliminaries, Caf informed the Ethiopian Football Federation.

Caf will review the decision for the two clubs to continue playing their home matches at Bahir Dar Stadium should they progress to the next rounds, the Federation.
